A delightful Picture Book! What I love most about Fillip Woke Up on Christmas Eve is that it is based on a family story. This book is a wonderful way is to introduce your child or students to family stories, or spark interest in collecting family recipes. I also love the beautiful language in this story. Also, who knew flies were so fascinating? I certainly didn't until i came to the end of this story. Your young reader will be captivated by all the new fly facts they will learn. This book is a must-read if you're interested in family stories, expanding vocabulary, or flies. Delightful!

Cute book and a tasty recipe to make with the kids. Fillip Woke Up is a fun and colorful story about an unexpected holiday visitor! Kids and adults will enjoy the fly facts at the end, too! A wonderful little story with lovely illustrations!

Surprise ending sets this book apart! Fillip's Christmas does not end as we expect, but then life is full of surprises. Delightful rhyme, lovely richly colored illustrations and fascinating back matter add to the charm of this book, but for me what sets it above most others is that it shows young children that things do not always work out how we want, and that is okay. It is the very antithesis of the saccharine, feel-good, unrealistic stories so common among picture books.

Rhyming Christmas Story with a Recipe and Scientific Facts! This book is a delightful surprise that follows the adventures of how a fly ends up in Nana's house at Christmas! The rhyming and rhythm are brilliantly executed and make the book even more fun to read out loud. Love the double-page spread of onomatopoeia! A recipe for mantecadas (muffins that taste lie pound cake) and fun facts about flies are at the back of the book. Kids will love everything about this book, including the unique and bold illustrations! Also, great for learning about animal life cycles. I highly recommend it for K-3 classrooms, and can see children wanting to read this book over and over.

"Baking Day at Belle's" by Tarja Helena Nevala is an absolute gem that effortlessly weaves together friendship, resilience, and creative problem-solving in a delightful tale that captivates young readers. The easy-to-read poem format of the story adds a lyrical quality that feels like a warm embrace as you read it aloud. The rhythm of the words dances playfully on the pages, making it an ideal read for both emerging and confident young readers. Nevala's charming illustrations breathe life into each character, capturing their emotions and expressions with vivid detail. The visual narrative enhances the story's themes of friendship and understanding, while the inclusion of a horse biscuit recipe at the end adds an interactive and educational dimension that engages readers even further. I highly recommend this picture book for it is a heartwarming testament to the strength of friendships, the beauty of adapting to change, and the joy of finding solutions together.
